I had just moved to a new house in 2018 that had a Gas fireplace situated in what should have been a lounge but had been used as a bedroom .
My vision was to remove this gas fire and to have an open fire place using logs and to make this tired room into a snug for me to relax with no TV and for the Grandchildren to have a calm place to read their books etc.
I looked on line and read many reviews regarding fireplaces but Chimney mate stood out I made contact with Mr Hodgkinson who gave lots of advice by phone then came to my house to see if this could be done ..
Mr Hodkinson on viewing the fireplace gave me lots of advice and understood what I wanted .. I felt as ease straight away with him and he would inform me on his work step by step and informing why some additional works would have to happen for safety reasons etc .
Works carried out were always organised and there was no mess. Mr Hodkinson had to come a few times but as I work full time I was not able to be home ,so as the trust was there straight from the start I gave him a key so that he could carry out the work required.
I had a beautiful winter with the fire and Christmas was beautiful with the logs burning away and knowing that it was all completed to a high standard and knowing the safety aspect it had been fitted to the regulated standard required.
I therefore strongly recommend this company whether to have what I had done or for just to have the chimney swept etc.

Paul installed our woodburner following our acceptance of his competitive quote in winter 2018. Considering the season and the workload of installers at this time, he was courteous and accommodating, fitting us into his schedule and arranging the installation at short notice. The installation was thorough and professional with our living room being left clean and tidy after the work. Paul was also very forthcoming with useful advise regarding maintenance of the woodburner and installation of a Carbon Monoxide alarm. Paul came and quoted to install a wood burner for me earlier this year, he was very comprehensive and thorough assuring me that he could install the woodburner in my current fireplace testing this out which was contradictory to information I was given years ago from a builder so I was very happy.
He completed all the work in two days and now I have a lovely wood burner which works brilliantly and has made my lounge perfect.

Paul did a fantastic job opening out the fireplace that had previously housed the back boiler, preparing the fireplace, and fitting the multiburner stove.

He swept our chimney, he took great care and even cleaned up after himself. Pau I chose Paul to install our log burner after pondering several Bristol based fitters and then reading his reviews and meeting him in person. Our chimney is quite old and hasn't been used for years but he happily carried out all the prep work (including a thorough sweep, flue fitting, fixing some issues with the chimney pots and and carefully laying a hearth), then fitted and tested the log burner. I can thoroughly recommend Paul. I asked him to investigate a leaking flue, after which we agreed the only solution was to adapt the existing Victorian fireplace to make space for a small stove, and fit a full, and tall, chimney lining. Paul was great at talking us through our options and technically what was possible. This included working around other commitments to visit the property in advance to start the preparation. The preparation of the alcove ended up being a larger job than we estimated, and Paul was great at keeping dust to a minimum and tidying up each day. In early 2023, Paul installed two cast iron wood burning stoves. One, a Ecosy Rock replaced a gas stove and the other, a Salamander Hobbit was fitted into an existing cast iron fireplace. We used the stoves for the rest of the winter and are very happy with the results of Paul's work. The installation was carried out quickly and without any disruption. Paul explained clearly the modifications to the fireplaces which would be needed, gave a detailed quotation for each of the jobs, arrived promptly on the agreed dates and worked quietly and unobtrusively. He cleaned up after finishing each installation. We cannot see how anyone could have done the work more effectively or with less fuss and bother. We definitely would recommend him to anyone who is, as we were, uncertain how to choose an installer.

Well where do I start, don’t normally write reviews as in our line of work we work with trade men from builders to demolition experts, plasters, electricians, tree engineers the lists goes on and so we’re very critical, but this is so easy to say! you can’t go wrong with Paul, apart from always having a smile on his face , polite, punctual and hard working, he is highly skilled and fantastically knowledgable, can work around your every want helping all the way, offering great suggestions and keeping you informed and sharing his knowledge throughout, he did everything from installing flue ,fire and hearthstone to very high standards and at prices which believe me, less skilled firms out there charge more for! I am very happy with the work I had done to install my Rowendale multi burner. Paul and his team worked really well. The original fire surrounds, didn't go quite to plan, but all was rectified. I had been looking into getting a Log Burning stove for sometime and contacted Paul after my in laws recommended him. He came round and measured everything up and then emailed me my quote. We thought the quote was a good price so booked Paul to come and do the job.
Paul kept in good contact in the lead up to the install, sending pictures of hearth materials and the mantle to ensure I was happy with the materials he would be using, we purchased the stove ourselves although Paul did offer to do this for us if preferred.
During the works Paul was always friendly and courteous, we chatted easily and I was completely comfortable being at home alone with him whilst my husband was at work, in fact it was like I had known him for years!
Now the job is complete I am 100% happy with the work, it looks fantastic and if lovely and cosy being able to have an indoor fire.
